What to Expect
The drive is part of the experience. You leave the main roads behind, follow smaller country roads that twist through the hills, and suddenly you arrive in a quiet village where this long-established restaurant has been welcoming guests for decades.
Solar dos Amigos is not modern or trendy – and that is exactly its charm. It is a large, traditional restaurant with several indoor dining rooms, rustic details, and a warm, lively atmosphere. Most of the seating is indoors.
There is some outdoor seating available, located along the road in front of the restaurant. It is perfectly fine on a pleasant evening, but space is limited. If you specifically want to sit outside, it is wise to reserve in advance and mention it when booking.
The menu focuses on classic Portuguese dishes – generous, hearty, and deeply rooted in tradition. Portions are famously large. If you are not extremely hungry, we recommend sharing a main course! The restaurant is very used to this and happy to guide you. It is part of the culture here – generous plates meant to be enjoyed together.
Because of the portion sizes and the fair pricing, it offers excellent value for money. You leave satisfied – and rarely disappointed.

Why We Recommend It
This is not a restaurant you “accidentally” pass by. You choose to go here – and that is precisely why it feels special.
It lies outside the typical tourist routes, and most guests are Portuguese. That creates a relaxed, authentic atmosphere where you feel like you have found something real.
If you are willing to drive a little further one evening, Solar dos Amigos rewards you with a very Portuguese dining experience – generous, unpretentious, and genuinely welcoming.
