A Beautiful, Playable Championship Layout by the Atlantic
Summary
Royal Óbidos is one of the most scenic and well-balanced courses on Portugal’s Silver Coast. With natural flow, generous fairways and coastal views, it offers a fair challenge for golfers of all levels.
Practical Tips
Perfect for: Golfers who want a championship course that is challenging but still enjoyable and playable.
Bring: A light jacket — coastal wind can change quickly.
Buggy? Not a must. Many golfers walk the course comfortably, but some hills and wind can make a buggy a nice option on certain days.
Halfway House: You pass the clubhouse after 9 holes.
Toilets on the course: Yes — available at several points around the layout.
Why we recommend it: It combines scenery, honest design and a relaxing atmosphere — a course that feels good to play.

Designed by Seve Ballesteros – and it shows
Royal Óbidos was the final design by Seve Ballesteros, and his philosophy is felt throughout the entire course:
a natural layout, no forced features, and strategic choices that make the round interesting without ever becoming unfair.
Course Layout
Par: 72, Holes: 18
Par 3: 5
Par 4: 8
Par 5: 5
The rhythm is excellent — wide landing areas, large greens, and a mix of holes that reward good shots rather than punishing the bad ones too hard.
How does Royal Óbidos play?
Royal Óbidos looks dramatic, but it plays fair.
Fairways: Wide and inviting.
Greens: Smooth, fast, and generally on the larger side.
Wind: Often the main strategic factor — some days calm, some days a real challenge.
Difficulty: Moderate and enjoyable for all handicaps.
Signature holes include 2, 3, 15, 16, and 18, each offering different views of the lagoon, ocean, or dramatic bunkering.
Staying nearby (if you choose to)
The course sits next to the Evolutee Hotel and the Evolutee Apartments.
If you stay in the apartments, breakfast is served in the golf clubhouse — always a nice experience.
But Royal Óbidos works equally well no matter where you stay along the Silver Coast.
Tournament history
Royal Óbidos hosted Open de Portugal from 2021 to 2025, showcasing the course’s ability to handle high-level tournament golf while still remaining accessible and enjoyable for everyday players.
Our cooperation with Royal Óbidos
WestGolf Portugal has a close and growing partnership with Royal Óbidos.
We are gradually taking a role in representing the resort in Scandinavia and collaborating on visibility, communication, and local support for visiting golfers.
It simply means we know the course well and can help guests with insight, experience, and honest recommendations.
