Relaxed golf resort outside Lisbon
Summary
CampoReal Golf Course offers a different golfing experience from the championship courses around Óbidos. Set within the Dolce CampoReal Lisboa resort, it combines enjoyable golf with excellent hotel facilities, a relaxed atmosphere and one of the most convenient locations in the region. If comfort, accessibility and a full-service resort are just as important to you as the golf itself, CampoReal is well worth considering.
Practical Tips
Getting There
Lisbon Airport: approximately 35 minutes
Torres Vedras: approximately 15 minutes
Golf Courses in Óbidos: approximately 45 minutes
Golf Reception
The golf reception is located inside Dolce CampoReal Lisboa, but don't use the hotel's main entrance. Instead, take the steps up from the road to the entrance facing the golf course. From there you'll find the golf reception, the restaurant and the terrace overlooking the 18th green.
Halfway House
The golf restaurant is conveniently located after nine holes.
Buggy?
Recommended, but many can do without

The Golf Course
Designed by Donald Steel, CampoReal Golf Course winds its way through the resort, passing elegant villas and the rolling countryside that characterises this part of Portugal.
While CampoReal may not offer the same championship quality as Royal Óbidos, West Cliffs or Praia d'El Rey, it doesn't try to. Instead, it offers an enjoyable and varied round where thoughtful course management is often rewarded more than raw power.
One hole deserves a special mention – Hole 6.
Personally, I've always found this hole more frustrating than enjoyable.
It isn't especially long or intimidating – it simply leaves you with very few good options. Hit a long drive and you risk losing your ball. Play safely and you're left with an awkward second shot that is close to impossible.
Even the official course guide advises players not to hit their drive too far, before explaining that "The second shot will require a long shot of some 180 metres to a large green with a narrow entrance"!
Read again please. Your favorite shot? :)
My advice? Accept Hole 6 for what it is. Don't let one frustrating hole spoil your day, and look forward to the holes that follow.
The Resort & Surroundings
One of CampoReal's greatest strengths is everything that surrounds the golf course.
Dolce CampoReal Lisboa is a full-service resort with a large hotel, spa, swimming pools, restaurants and conference facilities. Unlike the golf-focused resorts around Óbidos, this is a destination where golf is just one part of the overall experience. Whether you're travelling with a non-golfer, planning a longer holiday or simply appreciate having excellent facilities on your doorstep, the resort has a great deal to offer.
The surrounding region is one of the country's most important agricultural areas, with vineyards, orchards and farmland forming much of the landscape.
Just fifteen minutes away lies Torres Vedras, a lively Portuguese town that I've come to know very well over the years. My wife and I even owned a boutique there for several years, so it's a place I've visited countless times. If you're staying at CampoReal, I'd be happy to recommend some of my favourite cafés and restaurants away from the usual tourist routes.
After your round, the golf restaurant terrace overlooking the 18th green is the perfect place to enjoy lunch or a cold drink while watching the final groups finish their day.
Where CampoReal Fits In
CampoReal Golf Course is actually part of the close and exclusive cooperation between the leading golf courses in the Óbidos region. If you're staying in that area, it's easy to include a round at CampoReal as part of your itinerary, adding a different style of golf to your stay.

Stay at Dolce CampoReal Lisboa
While my main focus remains the championship courses around Óbidos, Dolce CampoReal Lisboa offers a different kind of golf holiday. If you prefer staying closer to Lisbon Airport, enjoy the facilities of a full-service resort and appreciate the slightly warmer and calmer conditions found inland, this is an excellent alternative.
If you would also like to experience some of the outstanding golf courses around Óbidos during your stay, they are all within comfortable driving distance, making it easy to combine the best of both worlds.
A Small Local Tip
If you're lucky, the covered parking beneath the hotel is open to golfers. I've managed to park there on several occasions, and returning to a cool car after a warm summer round is a luxury you'll appreciate. It's not always available, but it's certainly worth checking.
Psst: Don't tell anyone! :)
