The Fourth Course in our Óbidos Collection
Summary
Bom Sucesso is the fourth course in our Óbidos Collection. While it doesn't have the same international reputation as Royal Óbidos, West Cliffs or Praia d'El Rey, it offers a different golfing experience and an interesting glimpse into one of Portugal's most ambitious golf resort projects.
Practical Tips
Bring: A camera!
Buggy?: Recommended. The course has significant elevation changes, and players without a buggy are normally transported from the 18th green back to the clubhouse.
Halfway House: You pass the Club House after 9.
Toilets on the course: Yes – available at several points around the course.

A Course Shaped by the Landscape
Designed by Donald Steel, Bom Sucesso makes full use of the natural terrain. Fairways climb and fall across the hillsides, creating a course with plenty of elevation changes and a very different feel from the neighbouring layouts.
Several elevated tees offer beautiful views across the surrounding countryside and towards the Óbidos Lagoon, making the landscape an important part of the golfing experience.
More Than Just a Golf Course
Bom Sucesso is unlike any of the neighbouring golf resorts.
From the very beginning, the vision was ambitious. Some of Portugal's leading architects were invited to design individual villas, creating a modern residential community where each home has its own distinctive architectural identity.
Driving through the resort today, you'll notice how dramatically the styles change from one street to the next, yet everything still feels surprisingly harmonious.
The financial crisis brought much of that vision to a halt. Parts of the resort were completed, while others were left unfinished, and the large hotel still stands as a reminder of what was once planned. In places, it almost feels like driving through a ghost town before suddenly arriving in a vibrant neighbourhood filled with striking contemporary homes.
Rather than taking away from the experience, I think it gives Bom Sucesso a character of its own. It's a place that tells a story — one of great ambition, unexpected setbacks, and a future that still feels full of potential.

How Does Bom Sucesso Play?
Playing Bom Sucesso is about more than the golf itself. As you make your way around the course, you become part of the story of the resort. Fairways wind between the architect-designed homes, across dramatic changes in elevation and through a landscape that feels both established and still evolving.
The course rewards thoughtful course management rather than raw power. Its varied terrain, changing elevations and well-protected greens create an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all abilities.
It's a solid golf course with plenty of variation and offers a different perspective on golf around Óbidos.

Where Bom Sucesso Fits In
Bom Sucesso is part of the long-established partnership between Royal Óbidos, West Cliffs, Praia d'El Rey, Bom Sucesso and CampoReal, making it easy to combine different courses during your stay.
Guests staying at any of the participating resorts can include Bom Sucesso in their golf package, with transfers arranged between the four Óbidos-area courses through the resort reception.
For most first-time visitors, I still recommend prioritising Royal Óbidos, West Cliffs and Praia d'El Rey. Together they form one of Europe's strongest collections of championship golf courses within such a compact area.
Bom Sucesso adds another dimension to that experience. It offers a different style of golf, a fascinating resort story and an opportunity to discover another side of golf around Óbidos. Whether you're staying a little longer, returning to the region or simply looking for something different, it is a natural complement to the area's three headline courses.
