Why We Like It
This is one of those restaurants where you feel welcome the moment you walk in. The owner is present, the staff genuinely care, and the service feels personal rather than polished for show.
On our most recent visit, we were served by Francisco, a charming gentleman in his 60s, full of character and warmth. Besides working at the restaurant, he is also an artist and painter, which somehow fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the place.
The owner, Fernando, is equally welcoming – a genuinely kind and attentive host who clearly cares about both his guests and his restaurant.
What to Expect
O Conquistador is a classic restaurant in the best sense of the word. Traditional Portuguese dishes, solid cooking, and a setting that fits perfectly with the medieval surroundings of Óbidos.
If you’re not familiar with Portuguese cuisine, this is a great place to be. The staff are very helpful and happy to help you choose something that suits your taste.
One of their well-known specialities is the dish listed on the menu in English as “Traditional Púcara Style Chicken”, typically served in a clay pot. Even if you don’t order it, it’s worth knowing that this is a traditional portuguese dish and one of the specialities of the house.
A Perfect Excursion Combined with Dinner
Because the restaurant is located inside the old town, O Conquistador is an ideal place to combine dinner with a visit to Óbidos itself.
Well, you actually have to :)
Arrive a bit earlier, walk through the narrow streets, maybe stop for a drink, and then sit down for dinner. It makes for a complete and relaxed evening.

A Small Reality Check
Óbidos is not a place for late-night bar hopping. Most restaurants close relatively early, and the town becomes quiet in the late evening. That’s part of the charm – this is about atmosphere, history, and a good meal, not nightlife.
Why We Recommend It
If you’re looking for a restaurant that combines good food, genuine service, and a strong sense of place, O Conquistador is an easy recommendation. Add a walk through Óbidos, and you have a memorable and well-balanced evening.
