Summary
Golf in Portugal is generally relaxed and welcoming, but most courses around Óbidos are high-quality venues where a certain level of etiquette is expected. The good news is that the rules are simple and easy to follow.

A Relaxed but Respectful Approach
Compared to some other countries, golf etiquette in Portugal is not overly strict.
However, the courses are well maintained and of a high standard, so it is expected that players show respect for both the course and other players.
In practice, this simply means playing ready golf, keeping a good pace and taking care of the course during your round.
Dress Code
Most courses follow a classic golf dress code, but without being overly strict.
For men, a polo shirt or similar with a collar is expected. Tailored shorts or trousers are standard.
For women, typical golf attire is perfectly fine, including golf dresses, skirts or shorts.
In general, if it looks like golf clothing, it will be accepted.
Golf Shoes
Soft spikes are required on all courses.
Normal golf shoes are perfectly fine, but avoid running shoes or footwear not designed for golf.
On the Course
Basic etiquette is expected, but nothing unusual.
Repair pitch marks on the greens, replace divots where possible and rake bunkers after use.
Also be mindful of other players and keep a steady pace of play.
If you are using a buggy, it is important to follow the local driving rules.
Areas marked as “no buggy” are there to protect the course, so please respect the signage and keep to designated paths where required.
You will often meet greenkeepers during your round — a friendly greeting is always appreciated and part of the relaxed atmosphere on Portuguese courses.

Drinks on the Course
Having a drink during the round is perfectly acceptable, and you will often see players enjoying a beer or similar refreshments.
That said, the atmosphere is generally relaxed rather than party-like, so moderation is expected.
Practical Tips
Dress code: classic golf attire (polo / golf wear)
Shoes: soft spikes required
Atmosphere: relaxed but respectful
On course: repair pitch marks, replace divots, rake bunkers
Buggy: follow local driving rules and signage
Drinks: allowed in moderation
