Course Conditions & Maintenance

Summary
The golf courses around Óbidos are maintained to a very high standard.
However, like all top courses, they undergo regular maintenance to keep the quality at this level. Below you will find specific information about the courses we work most closely with.

High Standards – Year Round
The courses in this area are known for their excellent condition throughout the year.
To maintain this level, regular maintenance work is necessary. This is a natural part of keeping the greens healthy and the playing surfaces in top condition.
We stay in close contact with the courses and keep track of any periods that may affect the playing experience for our guests.
What Does Maintenance Mean?
From time to time, you may come across terms such as hollow coring or DryJect.
Hollow coring is a traditional method where small holes are made in the greens to improve air, water and nutrient flow. This can temporarily affect the smoothness of the greens.
DryJect is a more modern method where sand is injected into the greens without removing cores. This has minimal impact on play and is often barely noticeable.
Both methods are used to ensure long-term quality.
Royal Óbidos
At Royal Óbidos, a combination of hollow coring and DryJect is used.
Period: 13 July – 3 August 2026
Impact: temporary reduction in green quality
Green fee: 25% discount during this period
During this time, the greens will not be at their usual standard, but this is part of essential maintenance work.
West Cliffs & Praia D’El Rey
At both West Cliffs and Praia D’El Rey, only DryJect is used.
This modern method means that maintenance work has very limited impact on the playing experience, and most guests will hardly notice any difference.

What to Expect
Maintenance is a natural and necessary part of keeping golf courses in top condition.
While it may temporarily affect certain aspects of the playing experience, it ensures that the courses remain at a very high standard throughout the year.
We always aim to inform our guests in advance if their stay overlaps with any maintenance periods, so expectations are clear.
